THE MUSIC PROGRAM focuses on developing the skills necessary for successful musical expression. This will include: solo and small ensemble repertoire with assistance from guest artists/teachers; stage deportment, interpretation and technique. Musicianship and critical listening skills will be enhanced through study of: music history, listening, concert reviews, ear-training, sight singing and keyboard harmony. All students will participate in a large ensemble (orchestra, band, or choir). Pianists will develop accompanying skills. As students advance, there will be more opportunities for specialized study of jazz, musical theatre, teaching, arranging, composition, conducting and performance of standard symphonic and chamber repertoire. The cost of field trips and special items are the responsibility of the student.

Music Admission General Requirements: The student will (1) be required to sight-read a piece of music; (2) be given an ear training test; (3) be given a short theory test; (4) perform repertoire, studies and scales; (5) be interviewed. DETAILS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE APPOINTMENT LETTER.

Winds: music will be enclosed with the appointment letter.
Piano: perform two contrasting solo pieces at a minimum Grade VIII Conservatory level and Studies #1 and #2 from the Czerny Opus 299 Book 1.
Strings: perform two contrasting solo pieces at a minimum of Grade IV Conservatory level or higher.
Vocal: perform two contrasting solo pieces with accompaniment (an accompanist will be provided): (i) light musical theatre (age appropriate) and (ii) folk song or a piece equivalent to a minimum Grade II Royal Conservatory level.
